RAFTING DEFINITION

Rafting is a kind of recreational outdoor activities which use any flat structure raft for support or transportation over water. A raft is a flat bottomed craft that must able to float and drift on water

We have 4-kinds of raft that normally use in Malaysia

1) Bamboo Raft

2) Drum Raft

3) Survival Raft

4) Inflatable Raft

The first one was a Bamboo Raft. Bamboo rafts are created by tying many bamboo sweat and steams tied together to form a kind of water transport using in the river, lake or sea. To make a bamboo raft you need to prepare a bamboo, a rope, a cutter and a basic tying skills

The 2nd kind of raft is a drum raft. Drum raft is a same activity with Bamboo Raft. The only different is how to made it. You can prepare an empty oil drums that usually made from high density polyethelene (H.D.P.E.), a rope, a skill to do a tying rope, a wooden poles or a bamboo also can use together for Drum Raft

Survival Rafting

The 3rd kind of raft is a survival rafting. Survival Rafting is an activity use any kind of things to survive or float and drift on water. The Survival Rafting can made from a bottle, a groundsheet, a floating wood, a pants or trousers while they await a rescue if there is no other safe places to touch down

The 4th kind of raft is a Inflatable Raft. An inflatable Raft is a lightweight boat constructed with its sides and bow made of flexible tubes containing pressurised gas. It must floats when filled with air. Inflatable Raft can do either using a tube for Tubing River Rafting or a boat for White Water Rafting

The material used by the vast majority of manufacturers of inflatable boats is multilayer polyvinyl chloride or PVC, reinforced for strength with a mesh of polyester threads. This is a synthetic polymer fabric, it is much superior to rubber in its performance properties
